Cooperative is designed to give the students in an occupational program an opportunity to gain on-the-job experience while attending school. The program is a "cooperative"effort among the student, employer, teacher, parent, and the school.

Students usually start Co-op in the second semester of a one-year program or the second year of a two-year program. A training plan is developed to assist in the training of skills and competencies. The teacher and placement coordinator monitor the progress of the student, which is done in cooperation with the sponsor.
