Engineering Graphics I
1 Unit • Grades 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite:

Successful completion of Math Tech II or Algebra I

Course Description:

Engineering Graphics I is an introductory course designed to teach the fundamentals of design software used in the industry of Architectural and Mechanical Engineering. Software packages such as AutoCAD, Auto Desk Architecture, Inventor, and Chief Architect are used in the classroom and are also used by the largest engineering firms in the world. This course will allow students to test their abilities in becoming tomorrow's engineers and will prepare them for one of the most prestigious careers available.

Engineering Graphics II
2 Units/One Semester • Grades 11, 12

Prerequisite:

Grade of 85 or better in Engineering Graphics I

Course Description:

Engineering Graphics II is a continuation of Engineering Graphics I, focusing on more specific career-based projects. The course has two areas of study: Mechanical Design and Architectural Design. Each area involves various projects relating to the many careers in either field. With the skills obtained in this course students will be prepared to enter an entry-level drafting/design position and/or advanced placement at local technical colleges. Students can get a jump start on their career in engineering by enrolling at RDA!

Introduction to Graphic Communications & Printing Procedures
1 Unit • Grades 10, 11

Prerequisite:

Keyboarding proficiency required.

Course Description:

This semester course is designed to provide a general overview of graphic arts and design. Students use digital cameras, other photographic equipment, and printing equipment. Students will also use Macintosh computers to design projects for vinyl decals, one-color printing projects, and one-color T-shirts. The Adobe Creative Suite software, including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign will be used to design projects.

Graphic Communications Syllabus


Commercial Design
1 Unit • Grades 11, 12

Prerequisite:

Grade of 80 or better in Introduction to Graphic Communications


Course Description:

This semester course will give students hands-on training using the software programs: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Students will learn to use graphic design and electronic page assembly to produce professional-quality documents such as newsletters, brochures, forms, flyers, business cards, advertisements and letterheads. Students will learn screen printing and will print one of their own personal designs on a T-shirt. Students will work with vinyl graphics. Students will go through three phases of design:: thumbnails, rough draft, and final printed piece.

Commercial Design Syllabus


Advanced Graphic Arts & Design
2 Units • Grades 11, 12

Prerequisite:

Grade of 80 or higher in Introduction to Graphic Communications and Commercial Design.

Course Description:

After finishing this semester course, the student will know how to use the graphics computer software and the offset printing presses to create a variety of diverse media such as brochures, letterheads, newsletters, and booklets. The student will also learn digital imaging and will be informed of the skills and procedures needed to successfully operate and produce industry standard products related to the Commercial Graphics industry. Projects will include: multi-color printing, multi-color shirt printing, advanced digital photography, vinyl graphics and advanced design. This advanced course will put into practice the creation of personalized projects and give the ability to design, create, and complete printed projects. Students will also develop a portfolio for presentation along with a personal resume.
