Medical Terminology for the Healthcare Profession
(Dual Credit and Honors Weighting) • 1 Unit • Grades 11, 12

Prerequisites:

Grade of "C" or higher on previous course in Biology

Course Description:

This course is designed to develop in the student a working knowledge of the language of medicine. Students will acquire word-building skills by learning prefixes, suffixes, word-roots and abbreviations. Utilizing a body systems approach, the student will define, interpret, and pronounce medical terms relating to the structure and function of the human body, pathology, diagnosis, clinical procedures and interventions. Medical terminology enhances both written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of medical terminology enhances a student’s ability to successfully secure employment or pursue advanced education in health science.

A dual credit agreement with Spartanburg Community College allows students to earn high school and college credit at the same time.
