R. D. Anderson employs a full-time guidance counseelor to provide a career development program and assist students with their questions, concerns, and need for information. Dr. Perkins is available from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday in the RDA Guidance Office. Students or parents wishing to talk with the counselor outside of the 8:00 to 4:00 time frame are invited to set up an appointment. Some of the activities provided through the Guidance Office include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Counseling regarding educational and career paths
- Counseling regarding personal/social concerns
- Career "testing" and follow-up to aid in self-discovery
- Advisement concerning college, college major, and career choice
- Assistance in contacting colleges or miliary recruiters
- Assistance with college financial aid forms
- Group guidance with RDA students to assist in life/career planning
Any student who wishes to see the RDA counselor may request permission from his or her instructor or come by the guidance office outside of class time. The counselor may be reached by calling

If you’re a girl, have you ever thought about pursuing a career that is currently dominated by males? If you have, then that is GREAT. We have plenty of these career preparation programs to choose from at RDA, and we encourage you to select one (or more) of them if you want to do so. In many cases, your earnings potential may be enhanced by choosing a male-dominated career area. Money is not everything, however, and in the end your career satisfaction will be determined more by how well suited you are for a job than by the amount of money that job pays. So examine your interests, talents, and your values as they relate to the world of work. Take a career inventory and have a counselor discuss the results with you. Then take courses in the career area that is right for you. At R.D. Anderson, we will support and encourage you in whatever area you choose!
